Golden Honey Loukoumades Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 250g all-purpose flour
  • 7g instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 250ml lukewarm water
  • Sunflower oil for frying

For the Syrup:

  • 250g honey
  • 125ml water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Zest of 1 orange

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar.

  2. Gradually add the lukewarm water while stirring continuously until a smooth batter is formed. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, allowing the batter to rise.

  3. In a deep saucepan, heat enough sunflower oil for deep frying over medium-high heat.

  4. Once the batter has risen, give it a good stir. Using a spoon, scoop small portions of the batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, turning the loukoumades to ensure even cooking. Remove with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

  5. In a separate saucepan, combine honey, water, cinnamon stick, and orange zest. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove the cinnamon stick and orange zest.

  6. Dip the fried loukoumades into the honey syrup, ensuring they are well coated. Allow them to soak for a few minutes to absorb the delicious syrup.

  7. Arrange the loukoumades on a serving platter and drizzle any remaining syrup over the top. Serve warm and enjoy your delightful Golden Honey Loukoumades!
