Ingredients:
- 250g all-purpose flour
- 7g instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 250ml lukewarm water
- Sunflower oil for frying
For the Syrup:
- 250g honey
- 125ml water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Zest of 1 orange
Instructions:
-
In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar.
-
Gradually add the lukewarm water while stirring continuously until a smooth batter is formed. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, allowing the batter to rise.
-
In a deep saucepan, heat enough sunflower oil for deep frying over medium-high heat.
-
Once the batter has risen, give it a good stir. Using a spoon, scoop small portions of the batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, turning the loukoumades to ensure even cooking. Remove with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
-
In a separate saucepan, combine honey, water, cinnamon stick, and orange zest. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove the cinnamon stick and orange zest.
-
Dip the fried loukoumades into the honey syrup, ensuring they are well coated. Allow them to soak for a few minutes to absorb the delicious syrup.
-
Arrange the loukoumades on a serving platter and drizzle any remaining syrup over the top. Serve warm and enjoy your delightful Golden Honey Loukoumades!
